Typical Small Business 10-year Fail Rate

How many businesses open and close each year?

An estimated 552,600 new employer firms opened for business in 2009, and 660,900 firms closed. This amounts to an annual turnover of about 10 percent. Nonemployer firms have turnover rates three times as high, mostly because it is much easier for them to go into business and cease operations.

What is the survival rate for new firms?

Seven out of 10 new employer firms survive at least 2 years, half at least 5 years, a third at least 10 years, and a quarter stay in business 15 years or more. Census data report that 69 percent of new employer establishments born to new firms in 2000 survived at least 2 years, and 51 percent survived 5 or more years.

Survival rates were similar across states and major industries. Bureau of Labor Statistics data on establishment age show that 49 percent of establishments survive 5 years or more; 34 percent survive 10 years or more; and 26 percent survive 15 years or more.

How are credit conditions for small firms?

Credit conditions are improving. In mid-2010, commercial banks began to ease the tight lending conditions on small businesses that had begun in early 2007. And credit has continued to flow, as loans under $1 million totaled $695 billion in FY 2009. Also, after declining over the past few years, venture capital investment dollars increased in mid-2010.

But You Are Different, right?

Everyone believes he or she is different and unique from all others in the world, and technically, that is correct. We are indeed all different.

But every business owner on earth who started a business believed that they, too, were different from all the rest.

And 70 percent of them fail every year, as regular as clockwork.

It is 2011 and the Internet is King

You have an idea and a passion for what you do. You are betting on yourself and that is awesome. We did, too, when we started out.

The Internet is the number 1 source for information in the world. Governments, Universities, hospitals, lawyers, doctors, managers, gunsmiths, and housewives all go to the Internet first when they need information.

So do all of your customers.

When they want a product or service, they go straight to their computer, and 72 percent of them bring up Google. The rest use a mix of Bing, Yahoo, Ask and others, in that order.

They type in what they seek, and Google produces results.

Your customer rarely looks beyond page one on their search results if they find what they are looking for on that page.

Without revealing too many secrets, we can tell you that we can get your business on Google page one of searches that will bring people looking for exactly what you sell.

They will click your page one link on Google and go to your business website. Your site will have all of your interesting and vitally necessary business information on it, including (if you want) video of you and your business, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, photos and anything else you want.

These are people with an immediate need for what you do right now, today, and they are highly interested and motivated. These prospects are your very best type of customers, and they are hot to take action.

When we send that high quality buyer to you, your odds of being among the few businesses which survive go up. Way up.

You will make more money, faster, and secure higher quality long-term customers, too.
